What is The Modern Hedonist's return policy?

Return & Refund Policy

Thank you so much for purchasing with us at The Modern Hedonist, we are glad you found us. We truly appreciate your business and want to ensure you're fully satisfied with your purchase. If, for any reason, you're not completely happy with your purchase, please review our return and refund policy below, Love Laura x

Return Conditions

To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition as you received it, unused and in its original packaging. The order number and order confirmation email will be required as proof of purchase.

Original packaging – In one piece, free from imperfections. Tamper seals unbroken & in place. 

Please note that the following items cannot be returned if:

Essential Oils – If the tamper seal has been broken, we unfortunately cannot accept a return for these items, as they will not be fit for resale. If you have any queries, please contact us on hello@themodernhedonist.co.uk

Portable Diffuser – If the diffuser has been used in anyway or misuse of the machine is found. Unfortunately, we cannot accept a return under these circumstances, as the machine is then not fit for purpose. If you need assistance with your machine, please see our FAQs for help or contact us at hello@themodernhedonist.co.uk. Any issues you may be experiencing we are here to help; we want you to get the most out of your machine and be thoroughly happy with your purchase.

Return Process

To initiate a return, please email us at hello@themodernhedonist.co.uk We will provide you with instructions on how to process and where to send your return.

Please note: We’re a small business and unfortunately can’t cover return postage costs for unwanted items. 

Refunds

Once we receive and inspect your returned item, we will send you an email to confirm its receipt and notify you about the approval process of your refund. We’re happy to offer a refund on unused items returned in their original packaging. Just let us know within 14 days of receiving your order and send the item back to us within 14 days.

If approved, your refund will be processed, and a credit will be applied to your original payment method within 5 to 10 working days. We always aim to refund you as soon as possible, however during busy periods please allow the full-time scale for your refund to be processed back to your account.

Faulty or Damaged Goods

We only replace items if they are defective or damaged (does not include damage caused by misuse). If you need to exchange your item for the same product, please contact us at hello@themodernhedonist.co.uk. Please do so by sending a photo. We’ll arrange a replacement or refund straight away and cover any return postage where needed.

Late or Missing Refunds

If you haven't received your refund yet, first check your bank account again, then contact your credit card company or payment provider. It may take some time before your refund is officially posted. If you've done all of this and you still have not received your refund, please contact us at hello@themodernhedonist.co.uk

When will I receive my order?

Items are usually shipped within 1-3 working days. We are a small business so occasionally during busy periods it may take us a little longer to get your order dispatched. 

Standard UK Delivery - please allow 3-4 working days for your order to arrive. All deliveries are 48hr tracked and delivered by Royal Mail. (Please allow a little longer during seasonal periods) 

Next Day UK Delivery  - for orders placed before 12pm, you can expect your order to be delivered the next working day . Orders placed after 12pm will be dispatched the next working day. Orders placed on a Friday will be dispatched the following Monday. Next day deliveries are 24 tracked and delivered by Royal Mail. (Please allow a little longer during seasonal periods)

Whilst we cannot be held responsible for any delays to your order once the goods have left our premises, we will help you to trace your parcel wherever possible. We observe English Bank Holidays therefore orders may take longer to be dispatched.

Do you ship internationally?

We are based in the UK and unfortunately, at this time we do not ship to Guernsey, Ireland, Northern Ireland or internationally.

How can I track my order?

All orders placed are sent with Royal Mail tracked services. When your order is dispatched, you will receive a notification with a tracking number so you can follow your order's journey to your door.

DIFFUSER QUESTIONS

How do I charge my diffuser?

Connect the included USB-C cable to your diffuser, then plug it into any standard USB power source – ie. laptop, wall adapter, or car charger.

For safety and best performance, always use a certified charger from a reputable manufacturer.

A full charge will take approx. 2-3 hours. When charging, the power button will flash,  When fully-charged, the power button will turn off.

How do I remove the orifice reducer from my essential oil bottle?

The orifice reducer is the small, clear insert inside the bottle opening. Pop this up by gently pushing the sides upwards and then take it out. 

How do you attach the oil bottle into the diffuser?

1. Release the nozzle and empty hold bottle from the diffuser by pushing it from the underside and through the top.
2. Remove the bottle by unscrewing it from the nozzle.
3. Replace the empty hold bottle with your chosen essential oil blend bottle and screw it into the nozzle. Suitable for both 10ml & 20ml bottles. Ensure the bottle remains upright at all times.
4. Ensure arrow symbols line up when inserting the nozzle back into the machine.

Note: When not in use, always ensure the empty hold bottle is reattached so that it can be pushed out and replaced at ease.

What is the empty hold bottle for?

The hold bottle is for travelling and when the machine is not in use. The nozzle can be fiddly to remove without the bottle in place and so it's recommended to always replace your oil bottle with the hold bottle to make it easy to insert the next time you need a moment of calm and clarity.

If you do not intend to use your diffuser for an extended period, then the hold bottle is to be used. Simply remove your essential oil bottle and re-insert the orifice reducer and lid, this keeps the essential oil fresh for your next use. 

I haven’t inserted the hold bottle and now I can’t get the diffuser nozzle out, what do I do?

We recommend always inserting the hold bottle when an oil isn’t in use for easy nozzle removing. However, we appreciate this can happen - use a non-offensive item, long enough to gently pop the nozzle out from the underside.

Please remember this is to be done gently and not regularly, we strongly recommend using the hold bottle for easy removal in future.

Can I use any oils with my diffuser?

The Modern Hedonist waterless diffuser is designed specifically for 100% pure essential oils that are free from impurities. We recommend using 100% pure essential oils only.

Never use with water, any other types of oils, essences, or synthetic fragrances which can result in permanent damage to your diffuser.

Can I travel with my diffuser?

Yes! Your diffuser is the perfect travel companion for all sorts of trips - portable, waterless and convenient for on the go.

To prevent any leakage and damage to your machine when travelling, please ensure you remove your oil blend from the machine and replace the bottle with the empty holding bottle whilst in transit.

As with all electronic and liquid items, please check any luggage restrictions that may apply when travelling for safety reasons.

How do I clean my diffuser?

You should clean your diffuser every 1-2 months depending on usage.

To clean: Remove the nozzle, Fill the empty hold bottle with approx. 10ml of rubbing alcohol and run for 30 mins - 1 hour. Clean the nozzle with a cloth. Always keep your diffuser clean and dry, avoid leaving stagnant oil inside the bottle for prolonged periods of time.

My diffuser is misting differently compared to normal, is it okay?

Due to the cold-mist technology used in The Modern Hedonist diffuser, there are different factors that can affect how the misting appears, such as: air currents, temperature and humidity.

This is a natural occurrence and does not impede on the scent or quality of the product being released into the air. It isn't a fault, it's simply clever technology making an adjustment to the environment it's in.

My diffuser is leaking essential oil, what should I do?

The likely cause is the machine has been turned over or tilted. Remember to keep your diffuser upright at all times when carrying oil to avoid spillage and damage.

To fix and clean...

  1. Ensure the diffuser is switched off.
  2. Remove the nozzle and essential oil bottle.
  3. Re-insert the orifice reducer and lid to keep the essential oil fresh.
  4. Clean the machine with rubbing alcohol.
  5. Use a lightly saturated cotton bud and clean the internal part of the nozzle (around the tube insert).
  6. Re-insert the hold bottle and follow the manual guide for cleaning details or see our video guide here. 
Why won't my diffuser turn on?

Make sure the touch pad is clean and dry, ensure the oil is placed in the machine correctly and the arrow symbols at the top match up, consult the manual for further details or contact us.

My diffuser isn't charging, what should I do?

Does my diffuser have a manufacturer's warranty?

Yes, purchases of our Waterless Portable Diffuser include a 12-month manufacturer warranty.

To register your diffuser, email us quoting your full name and order number at hello@themodernhedonist.co.uk. 

We want to offer our Modern Hedonists peace-of-mind-purchasing by offering a 6-month warranty for our portable diffuser.

If your product arrives faulty or develops a fault under normal use, you may be entitled to a refund, repair, or replacement.

If you are experiencing issues with your machine outside of the 6-month warranty period, please see our FAQs or contact us. The warranty period may have ended, but our unwavering customer care hasn’t, we will always try to assist you where & if possible. 

What’s Covered

  • A full refund will be issued for the receipt of faulty goods; this will be submitted once the goods have been accepted back to us and the inspection period has been carried out. This is usually within 30 calendar days.
  • A repair or replacement if the product develops a fault within 6 months, unless we can prove the issue was caused by misuse.


Faults covered include:

  • Manufacturing defects
  • Operational issues that arise during normal, intended use, such as:
  • A diffuser that won’t turn on
  • A misting function that fails
  • Electronics that stop working without damage or misuse


What’s Not Covered:

The following are not considered faults under this policy:

  • Damage caused by accidents (e.g., dropping, mishandling etc.)
  • Use of incompatible oils or cleaning products
  • Failure to follow care or usage instructions
  • Cosmetic wear and tear from regular use

How to Make a Claim:

If you believe your product is faulty:

Email us at hello@themodernhedonist.co.uk within 30 days (or up to 6 months for repair or replacement)

Include your order number, a description of the issue, and photos or video evidence of the fault, we’ll assess your claim and offer either a refund, repair, or replacement, depending on the nature of the fault. 

If a fault is found and your claim is approved, we will cover return shipping costs and arrange for the appropriate remedy in line with your statutory rights.

Please Note:
The warranty rests with the original selling authorised retailer. Any product purchased second hand, or not from an authorised retailer, does not have a warranty.

OIL BLEND QUESTIONS

What actually are pure essential oils? Are they safe?

Pure essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts made by distilling or cold-pressing plant material to capture the plants' natural aromatic compounds.

The key to a pure essential oil is nothing added, nothing removed.

Although essential oils are natural, natural doesn’t always mean risk-free, their safety depends on how they are used...

Safe practices would be diffusion within a reputable product or machine, or to dilute the oil for use.

Always patch test, testing on a small area to check for reactions.

Are there any precautions I should be aware of?
  • FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY
  • Do not apply undiluted to skin.
  • Avoid use during pregnancy.
  • Keep away from children.
  • Store in a cool, dry place.
  • Please perform a patch if using for other purposes than our Modern Hedonist diffuser.
  • Keep away from eyes.

This natural product cannot be guaranteed free from traces of nuts or other allergens. Due to the nature of this product, there may be variances in colour and scent between batches. We are constantly improving our products and so, on occasion, the product you receive may differ slightly in appearance from images displayed on our website.

This information is not based on facts and the benefits of the product may vary between individuals. If unsure, then we advise you to seek professional advice.

Where are the essential oil blends sourced from?

Globally sourced and bottled in the UK. Blends are designed by us!

How do I travel with my essential oils?

Always insert the orifice reducer back into the bottle and pop the lid back on. This will keep your oil fresh and reduce the risk of leaks and inevitably the stress of cleaning up afterwards!

Can I use the oil blends or diffuser while pregnant?

No, we strongly recommend against using our AM or PM concept oil blends, either on their own or through the diffuser.

Although certain types of aromatherapies are deemed safe during pregnancy, our products are NOT due to their concentration. 

Please avoid use during pregnancy. Always consult a healthcare or medical professional for individualised advice.

Can I use the oil blends or diffuser while breast-feeding?

We are not aware of any issues related to diffusing our oils in regard to breast feeding, however, we strongly recommend seeking medical advice prior to use, and never use the oil blends or diffuser around or on children.

Can I use the oil blends or diffuser around children or pets?

We strongly recommend against diffusing or using our products around or on children. The same principle applies to animals. 

Are The Modern Hedonist's AM to PM concept oil blends only suitable for the diffuser?

No! Our oils are totally multifunctional and save us in many ways throughout the chaos of life!
