We Need to Talk About the Word ‘Reset’

|laura sizer

Sunrise coffee morning reset
Reset your morning. Reset your nervous system. Reset your hormones. Reset your life.

Apparently, everything needs a reset.

It’s become one of those words the wellness world can’t seem to leave alone. And we understand why. Technically, it’s the right word. Sometimes we do need to stop, reassess and begin again.

But somewhere along the way, reset stopped being an intentional act and became content.

A hook. A headline. Something the algorithm likes because it promises transformation in a conveniently short amount of time.

Your conscious mind deserves a little more credit than that.

Because meaningful change rarely happens in a seven-day reset, a morning routine or because you bought the latest thing promising to make your life infinitely better.

And yes, we’re a wellbeing brand saying that.

We believe enormously in the power of scent. We believe in ritual. We believe that changing your sensory environment can change the way a moment feels.

But scent cannot foot the whole bill.

Neither can breathwork. Pilates. Supplements. Meditation. Journaling. Cold plunges. Green juice. Eight hours of sleep. Or whatever happens to be trending this week.

They are tools. You are still the person holding them.

So, what does a real reset look like?

Sometimes it looks incredibly unglamorous.

  • Going to bed earlier.
  • Putting your phone down.
  • Saying no.
  • Moving your body.
  • Admitting something isn’t working.
  • Eating properly.
  • Calling somebody.
  • Getting outside.
  • Booking the appointment you’ve been avoiding.
  • Creating five quiet minutes in a day that usually belongs to everybody else.

A real reset isn’t necessarily about becoming someone new.

It might be about remembering who you were before the noise got so loud.

That’s the version of wellbeing we’re interested in.

We created our sensory rituals to help punctuate your day to create moments that remind you to check in, breathe, shift the atmosphere and notice how you actually feel.

Then you take it from there.

Because there isn’t an essential oil on earth powerful enough to make the decisions only you can make.

And perhaps that’s the conversation wellness needs more of.

Less this will change your life.

More this might help you change it.

Reclaim your sense of self.
