Understanding the importance of being trendless....

|laura sizer

Your Wellbeing can't be fixed through social trends.

Ever heard the phrase 'Old schools, the best school'? because it is. Here's my candid view on the wellness industry, why striping back and being trendless is the real flex in 2026.

Here's how I reclaimed my sense of self, And it's the simplest wellbeing exercise you’ll ever do.

The wellness industry loves to tell us what we need.

More supplements.
More skincare.
More movement.
More meditation.

But what if the answer wasn’t adding more?

What if the first step towards feeling better was actually understanding yourself?

Before I created The Modern Hedonist, I reached a point where wellness was making me more stressed than the things it was supposed to fix. I was trying to follow everyone’s advice.

The latest podcast.
The newest supplement.
The trending morning routine.
Whatever trend socials churned out.

Every expert had a different opinion, Every influencer had another must have product. And somehow I still didn’t feel any better.

One afternoon, I stopped trying to fix everything. Instead, I grabbed a blank piece of paper.

No fancy journal.
No expensive planner.

Just a pen.

In the middle of the page I wrote five simple words:

What do I need most? That question changed everything. It shocked me back to reality, made me think 'why am I listening to everyone else'? surely I need to hear myself first.?

The Intention Diagram just entered the chat...…..

I started a spider diagram, mapping out what I needed most at that time.

Because your wellbeing isn’t one thing. It’s a collection of things that all influence one another. When we lump everything together, it feels impossible. When we separate it into manageable pieces, clarity appears. Think of it as creating your own personal roadmap. Not Instagram’s roadmap, Not mine, Yours.

Step One

Draw a large circle in the middle of a blank page.

Inside it write:

What do I need?

  • Don’t overthink it.
  • Don’t write what sounds impressive.
  • Write what feels honest.

Step Two

Draw four lines out from the centre. These become your four wellbeing pillars.

Mine looked something like this:

  • Stress & Nervous System
  •  Sleep & Recovery
  •  Nutrition & Hormones
  •  Self Worth & Mindset

Yours might look completely different, and that's okay, we are all different.

Maybe yours are:

  • Energy
  • Confidence
  • Movement
  • Relationships

Or perhaps:

  • Anxiety
  • Gut Health
  • Rest
  • Joy

There are no wrong answers.

Step Three

Now ask yourself one question for each area.

What is the biggest thing holding me back here?

Not five things, Not ten, Just one.

For example:

  • Sleep

“I’m scrolling until midnight.”

  • Stress

“I never stop working.”

  • Movement

“I sit down all day.”

The goal isn’t perfection, It’s awareness.

Step Four

Only now do you ask:

What could genuinely help?

This is where so many of us get it backwards. We buy the supplements before identifying the problem. We invest in wellness before understanding ourselves. Sometimes the answer is a product, it’s going to bed earlier, it’s asking for help or it’s simply taking five deep breaths.

Wellbeing isn’t about owning more. It’s about choosing better.

The biggest lesson I learnt

Your nervous system doesn’t care whether your diffuser cost £20 or £200. It cares whether you consistently create moments of safety. Your body doesn’t need another trend, It needs consistency.

Your mind doesn’t need another expert shouting over everyone else, It needs you to listen.

This is exactly why The Modern Hedonist exists.

We were never created to become another overwhelming wellness brand. We were created to simplify it. To remind people that wellbeing can be beautiful without being complicated. That aromatherapy can support your nervous system without becoming another task. That one intentional ritual repeated daily will always outperform twenty habits you never stick to.

Because real wellbeing isn’t built in one perfect day.

It’s built in the small moments you choose yourself, over and over again.

Before you buy anything…

I’d love you to do one thing. Take ten minutes, Grab a piece of paper and build your own wellbeing diagram or use our free download in The Wellbeing Library.

You might be surprised to discover that what you truly need isn’t another trend, It’s clarity.
